Lib Dem candidates chosen for elections
14 stand for Lib Dems in Knowsley
and new offices for campaign

Knowsley South Liberal Democrats have selected the candidates to fight in the Borough Council elections on May 4th this year.

And for the first time in recent years Knowsley voters will be able to elect a Liberal Democrat in as many as 14 wards.

Knowlsey MBC Cllr Ian Smith, who will act as Agent for all 14 candidates, said: "The new Millennium not only marks the dawning of a new century but the start of a new era for local government in Knowsley.

"The May elections will provide the people of Knowsley with real choice and an opportunity to express how they feel about Labour run Knowsley Council.

"Liberal Democrats are confident of winning at least three if not more seats this year, providing a strong platform for the future and real opposition at long last."

Many local issues that local people are concerned about will be tackled by Lib Dems .

But it is the protection of the environment that is at the top of the agenda, with many wards threatened by planned developments.

"Everywhere you look in the Borough this Labour dominated Council is ruining the greenbelt and playing fields forever," said Smith.

"Electing more Liberal Democrat councillors is the only way to protect the greenfield sites under threat in Halewood, Huyton, Kirkby and Prescot from this Labour council."

NEW OFFICES

And Knowsley South Liberal Democrats will be planning their campaign to oust Labour from key seats in the Borough from new offices in Prescot.

The first floor offices, at No 10 Eccleston Street in Prescot Town centre, provide another point of contact for your local Liberal Democrat candidates

Next door to the Halifax building society, the offices will also provide an alternative venue for weekly surgeries.

Knowsley South Liberal Democrats have launched a petition to save our local Post Offices within the Borough area.

If the Labour Government goes ahead with its plans to have pensions paid directly into bank accounts many local Post Offices could face the threat of closure.

Cllr Eric Byron says: "We must support our local Post Offices and back this campaign to stop Labour ruining their livelihood.

"Local Post Offices have already have already started to make their protests, we need to help them and put as much pressure as possible on the Labour Government to stop their plans!"
